RoCM Playlist: 23 Nov 2024
Back with a new show this week as we acknowledge the birthdays of the late Roswell Rudd and Sheila Jordan, the latter of whom celebrated her 96th birthday this past Monday. We also say goodbye to Roy Haynes, who we lost on Nov 12th at the age of 99, by featuring his appearance on a track by Andrew Hill.
Rounding out the show, a track from the David S. Ware Quartet from their last recorded work. Throw in the always impressive Matana Roberts and some Archie Shepp, and it’s not a bad two hours of jazz. I am not deliberately leaving out the Jerome Cooper, Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre, and Frank Lowe piece, which is not for the weak at heart.
And on this day in 1926, R.L. Burnside was born, hence the very first track of the show. Here’s another track just because…
Don’t forget that you can listen to the RoCM online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.
