RoCM Playlist: 25 Jan 2025

So welcome to to what is looking like the final season of America – which is kind of like Game of Thrones, in that we had some highlights with a lot of potential but overall a pretty disappointing run with way more incest than necessary. Looking at you, Trump voters. Anyway…

As far as this weeks show goes – a two birthdays to highlight in Etta James who was born on this date in 1938, and Julius Hemphill who was born one day earlier on January 24, 1938. We also have a track from a soon to be re-released album by Rashied Ali and Leroy Jenkins. We round out the show with some other great tunes.

One a personal note – a big shout out and congratulations to my good friend Adrian Morejon who performed Dialogue de l’ombre double (1985) for bassoon and electronics last night at the new home of the Talea Ensemble at the Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew in Brooklyn. It was an incredible show.

Here is the playlist. Don’t forget that you can listen to the RoCM online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.
