RoCM Playlist: 23 Mar 2024

I liked the first hour theme that we did last week of live performances from Antibes so I am borrowing on that theme and this week the first hour features live performances recorded at Sweet Basil in New York City. Sweet Basil was the site of a huge number of jazz performances during its 27 year run – 175 of which were released as albums (according to Discogs) – so we’re barely scratching the surface with the three that I have selected this week. .

Additionally – this week Impulse! has released Alice Coltrane: The Carnegie Hall Concert, but unfortunately I was unable to get my hands on a copy for this week so instead we will listen to a track from Ptah, the El Daoud (recorded at The John and Alice Coltrane Home on Long Island in Dix Hills – about 20 minutes from where I live). Also, last week we heard individual tracks by Moor Mother and Keir Neuringer so this week we hear a track from their collective album (with others) as Irreversible Entanglements with a track from Don Cherry sandwiched in between.

Don’t forget that you can listen online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.
