RoCM Playlist: 30 Dec 2023

So the final program of the year. I just want to thank you for listening to the show in 2023. This year was not without its challenges, but the show is a a labour of love for me so I appreciate your ears every week, and I am looking forward to continuing on in 2024.

As I mentioned during the show, the jazz highlight of the year for me was an album by Angel Bat Dawid called “Requiem for Jazz“. If you haven’t devoted any time to listening to this masterpiece, I highly recommend doing so. It’s a stellar offering, a complete masterpiece and I think one of the most ambitious albums in recent history. You can view a brief clip of the actual performance here.

The album is largely inspired by a film by Edward O. Bland called The Cry of Jazz (1959) And because of the crazy world we live in, you can watch the film online:

Here is the playlist for this week. Don’t forget that you can listen online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.
