RoCM Playlist: 03 June 2023 (Re-air of 1 Oct 2022) and about Iceland…
So I returned from Reykjavik, Iceland and leapt into the week as if we had never left in terms of professional and personal obligations (and jet lag) – the unfortunate casualty being that I was unable to devote any time to producing a show for this week – so instead I am re-airing the Pharoah Sanders tribute from last fall. While it is with good reason and it is still my first re-air of 2023 (I mean, come on, that’s impressive!), guilt is the gift that keeps on giving so please forgive me.
Iceland is an amazing place – very different than I anticipated – and I will have more to say about that next week. Some very cool photos from some of the sites we visited while there:
The weather was a tad unpredictable even by Long Island standards, and, according to locals, was much cooler and unpleasant than expected for late May. But aside from the difficult weather and the natural wonders, downtown Reykjavik had a ton of stuff going on and the scene there was pretty amazing. Lots of live music, food, art, and just a general pulse that was a joy to experience. Icelanders have shoved a civilization into the side of a fairly unforgiving island and are not only prospering but happily doing so with an infectious love for life. Þetta Reddast, indeed!
I also found a couple of gems at a local record called Lucky Records that miraculously survived the plane ride home:
Anyway, I hope we get a chance to go back.
Here is the playlist for this week (also linked above to the original post). Don’t forget that you can listen online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs. And I will see you with a brand new show next Saturday, June 10th.
